In a series of eight posts, I will look at the aspects of the health reform law that people can use to illustrate how better to accomplish what they want.
The number one priority of a liberal Democrat is to “empower” people. This is why one of the most famous and powerful slogans in liberal rhetoric is that of “the personal is political.” One of the best ways to show that they are in effect “empowering” people is to turn the health care system inside out and “empower” them by making them able to leave employers and purchase insurance directly from private, competitive companies.
Under this plan, they would be forced to buy private insurance directly from their employers, similar to the way they buy car insurance and home insurance today. But, their government is going to require them to buy it from a private company, which is regulated and evaluated by an independent board of experts.
No longer will they be forced to put up with the old employer-based system. This is an instance in which government is actually “empowering” people to make choices for themselves.
